Expect that with "Fairest," the newest installment in the Lunar Chronicles series by Marissa Meyer. Readers are finally given the chance to get to know Levana, the evil Queen of Luna, and understand what past experiences have shaped her. Meyer does a great job in just the first two pages of the story making readers feel sorry for Levana, almost making them forget what they know from the previous 3 books in the series: she tried to kill her young niece in order to maintain her hold on Luna's throne. Readers quickly get over their sympathy as they witness Levana's continual horrendous actions, leaving them with the question of "how can one person be so horrible?" at the story's conclusion. Andi is struggling; she blames herself for her brother's death, her parents have split, her dad is too busy with his new life for her, and her mom is too consumed by her grief to realize how badly Andi needs help. Music is the only thing Andi can count on, but when her father drags her to Paris to write her senior thesis over Christmas Break, Andi learns she's not the only person who has dealt with grief and depression. After finding a 200-year-old diary in a guitar case, Andi is thrust into the world of the French Revolution and lives through the horrors of the time, both through Alex's diary entries, and first-hand experience after a freak accident sends her back to the 1790s.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7541879357317700284.post-8874008935446844372014-10-28T08:39:00.002-07:002014-10-28T08:39:59.518-07:00Did You Know...The average life span of a taste bud is 10 days.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7541879357317700284.post-48862791395172381432014-10-22T11:21:00.001-07:002015-02-12T09:22:30.252-08:00Book Review: The Woodcutter by Kate DanleyWhat a great story! If you like fantasy and fairy tales, with some "good vs. evil" thrown into the mix, then this is the perfect book for you. The writing is beautiful, especially the description of the forest; you can actually see what it looks like, hear the sounds of the animals, and feel the raindrops. Danley does a great job of weaving together characters of multiple famous fairy tales into the story, as everyone must work together to stop an evil queen in her malicious intent to take control of the Twelve Kingdoms and wage war against the Fae.
